Hi, my name is Margaret Price. The day of the Feb 22nd quake I was in Eastgate with my daughter and my younger daughter’s baby. We were in fruit and veg department at Countdown. The moment it hit, we were flung to the floor. I tipped the baby’s pram over to protect her from flying wine bottles. The roof was coming down, it went very dark, people were screaming. It was terrifying. After it stopped we got up and tried to get out of building. It wasn’t easy as broken glass everywhere prevented us from pushing the pram. A young lad helped us carry it out. We then jumped into my car in covered car park and as we proceeded to reverse out the wall in front of us fell out. We took over an hour to get back to my home in Ferrymead. One by one our family members trundled home. My daughter, who worked in Victoria St, ran home to our place as by then we had both of her children. My husband who works in Hornby, abandoned his car in Addington and borrowed a friends bike. It was an absolute nightmare we wish we could forget. My heartfelt love goes out to all Cantabrians and Lytteltonians today on this the anniversary of the day from hell.
